Help Wanted from Volunteer Experienced Pavers

Darlington FC Supporters Group is going to provide a kiosk to keep our fantastic volunteers dry whilst they sell programmes and 50/50 tickets (as well as occasional ticket collections) outside the turnstiles at Blackwell Meadows. However, before we can site the kiosk we need to pave an area that measures 3.0 x 2.7 metres. We are able to recycle the paving slabs that were lifted in order to recess the dug-outs. These slabs are 900mm x 600mm x 50mm and it would need 15 of these slabs to pave the required area. As these slabs are so hefty, we need some experienced pavers to lay them.

We have a supply of sand and pea gravel left over from the paving around the pitch.

If you have some time available to undertake this task, please contact Neil Raper, the DFCSG Secretary at:

Once we have made arrangements with the pavers, DFCSG will be seeking volunteers to assist the pavers by digging out the existing turfed area and transporting the spoil to the topsoil stockpile at the end of the car park.

Chairman’s Notes - Gainsborough Trinity

wayne-photo.jpgGood evening and a warm welcome to Blackwell Meadows for our first Vanarama National League North fixture of the season versus Gainsborough Trinity.

It’s been a little while since we’ve communicated about the current fundraising status so I wanted to share with you what’s happening and what’s planned to happen in the coming weeks and months.

As you’ll have seen we’ve managed to hit 2 stages of fundraising so far and are making good progress on the others:

1) Pitch drainage and resurfacing - £43,000 was pledged, £40,000 of which has now been collected - a huge thanks to all of those who have pledged and paid and enabled the work to take place already. If you’ve still not paid your pledge could you please do so as soon as possible.

I’m sure you’ll agree the pitch is looking resplendent in today’s sunshine (fingers crossed) and it’ll certainly help the quality of football played whilst also hopefully mitigating postponements during the wetter months.

2) Seated stand construction groundworks - again this target was hit a few weeks ago allowing us to instruct our building partner JR&M Richardson’s to begin work. A total of £40,000 was pledged to enable this and at time of writing we’ve collected around £33,000. As invoices are now coming in it’s vital that we get the remaining pledges in as soon as possible. I appreciate that summer holidays don’t always make it easy to make these payments promptly. If your circumstances have changed and you can no longer go ahead with your pledge it’s vital that you let us know so that we can make a contingency plan.

3) Seated stand construction steel works - pledges currently stand at £7,500 of the £50,000 target. There has been a considerable down of late and although this is mitigated somewhat due to the off season and an expensive time of the season with season ticket renewals and new shirts etc.

It’s a constant challenge to the DFCSG as to how we keep the money coming in. I’m fully aware that as a group of fans we’ve had to dig extremely deep over the last 5 years and even more so over the last 12 months as we strive to build a facility fit to play at the level which we aspire to. Due to starting with a blank piece of paper 5 years ago and not having the luxury of teams such as Halifax, Chester and Hereford who have been able to restart in a ground fit for league football it’s put an extra pressure on us but any investment on the ground is an investment in the clubs long term future. I therefore appeal to the hard core supporters who attend each week to compliment the 250 or so that have invested in the ground via varying schemes so far. The crowd funding model works as a result of many people funding small amounts. Community shares are repayable over time and can be bought for as little as £100. 750 people investing £100 would get us to our current target for improving the ground for promotion eligibility.

Community share certificates have been digitally produced for those pledges paid and are waiting to go to print. In order to save on postage costs they will be available to collect at Quaker Retail in the coming weeks and at home games from the DFCSG fans table situated in the Tom Watson bar. If you are unable to get to either in the coming months please let us know and we can post out to you. The start date for interest purposes will be set to the date your pledge was paid.

4) The Boost the Budget donation scheme which has reached over £41,000 has been vital in closing some of the gap from last year and enabled Martin to retain key players and build a competitive squad for the forthcoming season. As our CEO David Johnston mentioned in his recent communication the Club are working with our accountant to look at financial projections both for this year and the following 2.

All current fundraising schemes can be found on the DFCSG platform at: http://fundraising.darlingtonfcsupportersgroup.org/

DFCSG Membership renewals are due at the end of August and we’ve now opened the window for those who wish to renew early - all renewals will run to the end of August 2018 regardless of when renewed. By opening this window early it gives the hardy volunteers more time to process memberships and of course brings funding into the DFCSG which is always invested in the long term future of the Club.

Of course if you’re not yet a member you can sign up right now and you’ll also get membership until August 2018

You can sign up quickly online at www.dfcsg.co.uk/join

Enjoy the game!

Membership Subscriptions Renewal 2017/18

It’s that time of year again when we ask current members to renew their membership to the Darlington FC Supporters Group.

First of all we would like to thank all of our members for their valued support over the previous season and we invite you to renew your membership using our online facility:

http://www.dfcsg.co.uk/renew

Membership fees provide valuable funds for us to work with the Football Club Board and help develop the Club. This year we purchased additional share equity which has increased our shareholding in the club. This has provided the Club with vital cash contributions to help fund the move to Blackwell Meadows.

Subscriptions for the new season are due for payment on 1 September 2017 except for those members who took out the £25 membership since the 1st May 2017, as this special offer membership extends until the end of August 2018.

The reason we have notified members so far in advance of the renewal date is because we now have in excess of 1,000 members and producing so many membership cards is a significant task for our volunteer. By members starting the renewal process earlier, it spreads the burden of producing membership cards. Whether you choose to renew early or wait until nearer the due date, your renewed membership will run to 31 August 2018.

Subscriptions for full adult membership are £20 and £5 for anyone u16. There is a variety of means available to pay your subscriptions to suit your convenience - cheque, cash, and our secure online direct debit facility.

Once you have selected to pay, you will be given the option of a £20 ‘one-off’ payment or a monthly direct debit of £1.67. The system notifies us when a member has renewed, therefore there is no need to complete a paper renewal form. Our preference would be for members to pay by monthly direct debit because it is more efficient for everyone. If you opt for monthly direct debit the first payment will automatically be made on 1 September.

If you prefer the more traditional methods of payment, please complete the attached renewal form and return it to us with payment by cheque or cash. You can submit your form by:

• hand at Quaker Retail at the Dolphin Centre (open Monday to Friday 10am – 1pm);

• hand at the ‘Fans Table’ in the main bar at Blackwell Meadows at the matches against Gainsborough, Alfreton, or Telford;

• post to ‘Darlington FC Supporters Group, Blackwell Meadows, Grange Road, Darlington DL1 5NR (no cash please).

For anyone renewing before 31 July, we expect that your membership card will be available for collection from the ‘Fans Table’ at one of the home matches in August.

The benefits of being a full member of the DFCSG include:

· Maintaining your membership of the majority shareholder of Darlington Football Club – effectively making you a joint owner of the Club;

· Enabling you to stand for election to the DFCSG Board and to vote for your preferred Board candidates at the AGM;

· Receiving priority tickets for all-ticket games similar to those of season ticket holders;

· A number of discount offers including the excellent 25% off advance fares for Virgin Trains East Coast travelling from and to Darlington station – a full list of offers can be found on our website at the following link:

The DFCSG - strengthening the roots of our club

The DFCSG created and manage the B2D fund, which is funding available to help establish the Club back in Darlington. The fund acts as the primary collection pot for monies raised from direct donations and events organised by the DFCSG Fundraising Group.

Of course, there are many ways in which you can help the club directly but, if you’re specifically looking for a quick and easy way to support the establishment of a solid foundation for the Club in its new home, then it only takes a few minutes to set up a one-off or regular donation to the B2D Fund either by your online or high street banking service.

For monthly standing orders or a one off donation please send monies to the following account:

“Darlington FC Supporters Group”
Lloyds Bank
Sort code: 30-84-43
Account No: 30283268

To pay by cheque please make cheque payable to
“Darlington FC Supporters Group” and send to

Darlington FC Supporters Group
c/o Blackwell Meadows
Grange Road
Darlington
County Durham
DL1 5NR

Please quote your name in the reference area when using internet banking and, on the back of your cheque, include your name and address.

Remember there are many ways to help the Club… can you think of any more? Please tell us about it either by email or in person at the Fans Table in the bar at all home games.

  • Buying a Season Ticket helps to provide the Manager with additional funding needed to strengthen the team at the start of each new season
  • Attending matches provides the club with a constant stream of money throughout the season, from additional match-day ticket sales and revenues from catering and other sales (e.g. programme sales, match-day raffle tickets, 50:50 match-day draw, Club merchandise).
  • The Come On Darlo Prediction League is a fun way to add a little bit of an edge to your season - use your skill and judgement to predict how we and the other local clubs will do in the coming season, and who will be the big winners and losers nationally, come the end of the season.
  • The Sponsor a Goal scheme is a fan-run initiative which has raised over £8000 for the Club since it began in season 2012-13.
  • For as little as £5/month the DFC Fans Lottery Draw provides you with the chance to win either £50 in each weekly draw, or even more in the monthly Super Draw. The Lottery has raised more than £10,000 for the Club over the past 12 months.
  • The Fundraising Group runs a series of entertainment fundraising events over the year, the proceeds of which go into the B2D fund.
The Darlington FC Supporters Group (DFCSG) was established on April 10th 2015 with the merger of the CIC, Supporters Club and Supporters Trust. Darlington FC Supporters Group holds approximately 62% of the equity of Darlington Football Club and is therefore the major shareholder as well as being the Corporate Director of Darlington Football Club 1883 Ltd.
